An introduction to Fly Fishing

The Fishmongers’ Fly fishing Society has organised its first introductory day to fly fishing so that members who have not yet experienced its delights might do so. It will be held on Saturday 19 October 2024 at a spectacular fishery in Oxted, Surrey, Coltsford Mill Trout Fishery – easy access from the M25 junction 6 or 10 minutes by foot from Hurst Green railway station, with trains from Victoria and London Bridge. Professional tuition and fishing kit will be provided, as will a lovely BBQ lunch and refreshments. The only things you would need to bring are appropriate clothing, a hat and glasses/sunglasses. It should prove to be a most satisfying day and with luck, you will also catch some fish!

This is being hosted by the Fly fishing society which will cover the cost of the event.

If you require any further information, please contact the Secretary of the society, Lionel Young (lionel@lhyoung.co.uk). As the number of places is limited, please contact Lionel asap you to reserve your place.

Great 12 Sailing Regatta

The Great Twelve Sailing Challenge was founded in 2004 by the Ironmongers Company as a regatta for the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London. While the event raises money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, it is also an opportunity for those that participate to bond with others in their own livery company while also getting to know other the Livery Companies. The sailing is competitive but fun and will attract both experienced yachtsmen and women alongside those who have never sailed.

This year’s Great Twelve Sailing Regatta will take place in Seaview on the Isle of Wight on Saturday 8th June 2024 if you are interested in competing get in touch with  SDavenport@4pumpcourt.com

Inter Livery Shooting competition

The annual Inter Livery Clay Shoot is one of the highlights of the City of London charity events, which is traditionally held in second week of May. Since its inception in 1993 it has been hugely successful in raising funds for charities nominated by the winning teams and includes a donation to the Lord Mayors charity. It is attended by in excess of 450 guns each year with teams of four representing over 55 Livery Companies. Each member of the team shoots 80 sporting birds over 12 stands, a 20 bird Two Man Flush and a 80 bird Team Flush. The 2024 competition will take place at the West London Shooting School Thursday 16th May.
