Each year the Company, along with six other City Livery Companies who also specialise in food, supports the annual City Food Lecture, an important event in the city calendar. The Lecture focuses on the sustainability of food and looks at innovative solutions to complex problems.
Food is central to everything we do, from our work in Fish & Fisheries and Food & Nutrition to our outstanding reputation for delicious cuisine. That’s why the Company is delighted to support the annual City Food Lecture.
This year the keynote speaker was one of the foremost global thought leaders in the food industry, Dutch scientist, academic and broadcaster, Professor Louise Fresco, in a lecture, entitled ‘Fish nor Flesh or Both? Watch the 2020 lecture here:

The lecture was followed by a panel debate featuring Baroness Rosie Boycott, Ian Wright, the Chief Executive of the Food & Drink Federation and Andrew Thompson of Genus plc.
Also at the event was charity The Clink, a recipient of a Fishmongers Company Charitable Trust three year grant, who prepared a delicious buffet showcasing outstanding British food.
Also at this years lecture were 45 students and staff members from 10 universities, who were all are taking degrees in food-related studies. Their visit was deigned to motivate them on the excitement of future careers in the food industry.
