Funding from the Company’s Charitable Trust has delivered over 200 counselling sessions to women who have experienced domestic abuse in our neighbouring boroughs of Newham, Hackney and Tower Hamlets.
Woman’s Trust are one of the few organisations that provide specialist mental health support to some of the 1 in 4 women in the UK who will experience some form of domestic abuse in the UK. Support from the Company enabled the delivery of sessions in a range of mother tongues including Farsi, Greek, Bengali, Urdu, Hindi, Ghanaian, Arabic and Somali.
Woman’s Trust also deliver hardship support to its clients, many of whom find themselves in financially precarious positions. Since they were established in London in 1996, they have helped over 20,700 women.
One participant said “I could offload in a safe place in my own language. I was understood very well by my therapist. Using Woman’s Trust was like a miracle to me and helped me massively to deal with my past traumas. Also, getting the food voucher was like a magic wand to buy meat and sweets for my children”
Another explained “Having someone in my own language helped me a lot as I cannot speak English very well and this allowed me to explore my deep emotions in my mother tongue. I am extremely grateful for WT’s support. In addition, their food voucher was so helpful.”
The Company has also hosted the No Woman Turned Away: meeting the mental health needs of survivors conference in November 2023 sharing the growing need for specialist counselling for survivors.
