The Company has longstanding relationships with a handful of London’s Music, Drama and Art Schools. One of them is the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where the Company supports two scholarships, one for Acting and one for Music, as well as outreach work for music therapy students
Soprano Lara Marie Müller (second year, Advanced Certificate Opera Studies) is the current Fishmongers’ Music Scholar, while third year actor Chirag Benedict Lobo holds the Ben Travers Scholarship. This Award was established in 1981 with donations from Company members in memory of Ben Travers CBE, the noted playwright who served as Prime Warden of the Fishmongers’ Company in 1946. Past Ben Travers Scholars have included notable actors such as Neil Morrissey.
Thank you so much for this award, I can’t tell you how grateful I am to you for this continued faith in me.
Chirag Benedict Lobo- Fishmongers’ Ben Travers Scholar
I’d like to say a huge thank you for the support I’ve had from the Fishmongers for the last year, I couldn’t be at Guildhall without it. I have just started on my final year on the opera course, making it a whole seven years that I have now studied at Guildhall.

The Company continues to support a placement for a Music Therapy MA student at an East London pupil referral unit, where they work with students not in mainstream education whether due to ill-health, behaviour issues or other difficulties. The music therapy sessions bring great benefits to the pupils while enabling the MA students to gain professional experience, and provide a valuable service to the pupil referral unit, which it would not otherwise be able to afford.
