The Fishmongers’ Company, via the Fishmongers’ Company’s Charitable Trust, is proud to support City Harvest, a charity doing fantastic work helping to deliver surplus food to those who need it most in London, during the current crisis.
The Charity is a founding member of the London Food Alliance—a coalition set up to respond effectively to the Covid-19 outbreak — and is working with representatives of every London borough and City Hall to ensure that the most vulnerable get the vital food they need.
The charity estimates that since the crisis began the number of adults who have become food insecure has quadrupled, and over 1.5million have gone a whole day without food. Since the lock down has started they have delivered over 651,346 meals in almost a month, a 100% increase over the same period a year earlier.
We are delighted to be able to give City Harvest an emergency grant to support their invaluable work helping the most vulnerable in the current crisis.
It is a wonderful way to end a week in these challenging circumstances by receiving this support from the Fishmongers’. We are so proud to be considered for this grant by the Fishmongers’ and of all the work we have done together even in more normal times, when the need was already present in communities throughout London. We will be able to use these funds to help thousands of people who have limited or no access to food, many who have lost all their income in the past month. We look forward to meeting with you in person when this crisis is behind us, but in the meantime your interest and understanding of what we’re trying to achieve is very meaningful to our team.
