The Fishmongers’ Company’s Charitable Trust is delighted to support the unique Beyond Food, a fantastic organisation based at Brigade restaurant, just across the river from Fishmongers’ Hall. Beyond Food transforms lives through food by offering hospitality training to people who have been, or who are at risk of, being homeless. As one of the most active food Livery Companies and as a longstanding supporter of education, we feel a great affinity with their mission.
A core programme offered is the United Kitchen apprenticeship programme, where trainees spend a year learning to cook at Brigade and gain a Level 2 Professional Qualification in Food Production or Customer Service before embarking on a year-long work placement at a top London Kitchen. Following the work placement, they are supported into employment and are offered ongoing advice and mentoring.
Each year, the Beyond Food team supports over 100 people through its programmes, giving them the skills, experience and self-belief to change their own lives for the better.
Sometimes all someone needs is some inspiration. For me, cooking did that and I hope to do that with every homeless person that comes through Beyond Food.
