Aerial photos of the Hall and surrounding areas during and after The Blitz

The Hall sustained fire damage during the first weeks of the Blitz, in September 1940. An incendiary bomb landed on the adjacent Seal House and the flames spread to the Hall, destroying most of the roof and damaging the first floor rooms.  Over the following months, London was attacked nightly, with nearly 19,000 tons of explosives being dropped up until May 1941.

Huge swathes of the City were devastated, and other Livery Halls were less fortunate than ourselves – 16 were destroyed and a similar number badly damaged, across the 225 acres of London decimated by the raids.
